Poster House Social Guide

I am going to Poster House. Poster House is a museum about the history, art, and design of posters. 

Poster House’s address is 119 West 23rd Street, New York, NY 10011.

The Ground Level

This is a map of the ground level of Poster House. I enter through the 23rd Street side of the building shown at the bottom of the map.

This is the map of the lower level of Poster House. I can use the elevator or stairs to get to this floor.

Entering the Museum

When I enter the museum, I will see a security guard. They wear a black sweatshirt. 

  • They may say “hello.”
  • They do not need to check my bags.
  • I can ask them any questions I have. 
  • If they don’t say anything else, I can walk past them.

Photobooth

When I’m at the main entrance, facing the museum, the photo booth is on my right. 

  • I can take pictures in the photo booth. 
  • I may see a flash coming from this photo booth.
  • Photos are free or I can print them at the Shop for $5.00.

The Shop

When I’m at the main entrance, facing the museum, the Shop is on my left.
I can ask the Shop workers if I have any questions.

The Info Desk

From the entrance of the museum, I go straight to get to the Info Desk to check in. The Info Desk will be on my left. 

  • I may have to wait in line to get a ticket. 
    • I can get a disability ticket for $8.00. If I have a care partner, they can get in for free. 
    • I can go to the museum for free on Fridays.
  • I can ask to leave my coat, bags, umbrellas, etc. at the Info Desk.
  • I can get fidget tools and earplugs at the Info Desk. 
  • I can ask questions at the Info Desk like:
    • What fidget tools do you have?
    • Where is the bathroom?
    • Any other questions I have.

The Admission Stickers

After I get a ticket, I will put a sticker on my shirt or in a visible location. I can also hold it in my hand.

The Café

I can get food and drinks at the Café. Eating is not allowed in other areas of the museum.

  • This area can be crowded. 
  • There is music playing in this area.
    • If the music is too loud, I can go to the Info Desk and ask them for ear plugs or to turn it down.
    • I can also sit in the 24th Street Lobby.

Elevator or Stairs

I go straight toward the other end of the museum to use the elevator or stairs. The stairs are towards the middle of the museum. The elevator is at the other end of the museum, near 24th Street.

Bathrooms

I can use the upstairs or downstairs bathrooms. 

The bathrooms are gender neutral and single stall. 

There are wheelchair accessible bathrooms on both floors. They have a wheelchair symbol on the sign next to them.

Notes About Our Exhibitions:

There are rotating exhibitions throughout the museum. The Poster History Timeline in the 24th Street Lobby is the only permanent exhibition. 

Please do not take food into the galleries. Please do not touch the posters or walls. 

 

Upstairs Exhibitions:

  • I can go to the exhibition in the Entry Foyer, across from the Shop. 
  • I can go to the exhibition in the Main Gallery.
  • I can go to the Poster History Timeline in the 24th Street Lobby. 

Downstairs Exhibitions:

  • I can go to the exhibition in the Lower Level Hallway.
  • I can go to the exhibition in the Programs Gallery.
  • This gallery is smaller than the Main Gallery and can get crowded.
